BBC Sport - 'World Cup', 120s trailer
The team behind the promos for Damon Albarn's 'Gorillaz' was commissioned to produce this animated campaign for the BBC's coverage of the World Cup in Japan and Korea - in the Orient's traditional Animé style. The brief was to beat ITV in the ratings war: and the BBC did, by a factor of 4 to 1.
Lineker (who had already plied his trade in Japan), and the rest of the BBC commentary team as Manga superheroes...
The French were the holders - it'd be much easier to get the World Cup from the BBC than from them...
Inexplicably, the multi-talented Dutch team had failed to qualify. But Bergkamp and co could catch all the action by tuning into the BBC...
